Yes, Epson has acknowledged it, at least to me on the phone. All they say is to return the printer and they will fix it. My current epson 1200 Does NOT have them. My 3000 did have them, and they somehow fixed it, as it doesn't now. Thick glossy paper is the worst offender. Be SURE you have selected the thick paper setting. The sharp angle of paper against the rollers causes it. It's been going on on this list for at least 2 years. Send enough of them back to epson, and surely they'll do something sooner or later.
