I just installed a 13 Gig harddrive on a machine (BIOS etc.) that would only 
recognize a max. of 8 meg.  Western digital takes care of this by installing 
a BIOS patch from software that comes with the drive.  Also, their software 
lets you adjust for the inability to recognize the new fast harddrives.  So 
far my new harddrive is working great.
