Epson Spool Manger problems

Hi,

On this recently built Pentium 3 system of mine I'm having probelems printing 
with some apps.
What happens after the print command is executed is that on the taskbar the 
epson spool manager appears briefly and then dissapears, and a blank sheet of 
paper comes out of the printer, just wondering what the lpt port in the bios 
should be set to, maybe this is causing the problem.

I'm using the latest epson driver for the original epson clor stylus color 
with win 98 second edition.
