I fail to understand why there would be a need to comment on the existence of a
solid state hard drive.  If you doubt my statement, a few seconds on google
would give you lots of hits.

Your statement about that it should be a reasonable size as related to PS is
valid and is typically met by most solid state drives.  For example, here is a
Compaq 2.1 GB one:

These are random hits form Google, I am not suggesting that they are good
choices.

The one I saw a few month ago looked like a PCI card with lots of RAM slots on
it, so presumably it could be populated according to available funds.

Sounds like a super way to go except for the cost.
