Re: profiles

Paul,

Seems to me U2 would be better off and dollars/time ahead to buy a
relatively inexpensive scanner-based profiling software like ColorVision's
Profiler Plus and create profiles from within your own system. Without the
ability to tweak profiles made for someone else's system, and, given the
idiosyncrasies of each printer and its operating environment, there's little
likelihood their profiles will accurately remap the colors for your system.

Subject: profiles

| don't wish to get into the profile swapping debate, but...
|
| quite a few companies (John Cone etc) give away profiles for free... so
are they breaking the law?
|
| been on this list for over a year, and it has always struck me as odd that
people don't swap some of the most standard profiles for free. Lots of us
must be using Gen4 on a 1280/ 1290, with Epson Archival Matt, or Hannemule.
so why not exchange them? it makes a lot of sense...
|
| there are still many people who want their own unique profiles for their
own specific machines, so nobody needs worry about their business model
being too affected, surely?
|
| can't we can exchange basic profiles between ourselves without all this
angst?
