The healing brush is not just a softly feathered clone stamp. There's some heavy, patented math behind it that blends the color and tone from the areas surrounding the area to be healed with the texture of the source area. It's not just more convenient in certain cases, it works in a fundamentally different way and can produce results that are extremely difficult to duplicate with the clone tool. The paint brushes included with PS 7 take advantage of the new painting mechanism in PS 7. There are dozens of new controls on painting that didn't exist in PS 6.
