We're a bit off-topic here, but...
to avoid smudging at high contrast edges (like the edge of a face or a power
line going into a building), select the target area carefully before using
the healing brush. For the power line example, make a loose selection around
the power line except at the end, where you should match the building edge
closely. The brush won't use pixels from outside the selection when healing.
Don't select the entire area to be healed exactly (e.g. don't select just
the power line with no sky on either side) or the healing won't have any
pixels from the surrounding area to work with and you'll get a mess (you
*want* it to smudge the sky over the place where the power line was) -- just
be exact at high contrast edges you don't want smudged.
