Yes, I can easily see this. I'm not sure it would work, but at least there'd be
a compelling reason to consider it. However, it the case of the 5500 vs. the
7600 I'm making some assumptions. The bottom line to my assumptions is that the
7600 outperforms the 5500 in all respects and is almost twice the print width
to boot. The only thing I'm unclear on is the 7600's paper handling
capabilities vs. the 5500's of sheets the are 8.5 inches wide. So whether they
are intended for different markets or not is really irrelevant. Many times
products get used in applications that the manufacturer had no idea they'd get
used in. If you give me the choice of 2 printers with exactly the same
capabilties except size and put the same price tag on them, I'll take the
bigger one whether I need the size at that time or not because I might need
that size at some point in the future.

Anyway, I'm sure they have some plans for the 5500 (reprice, discontinue, or
replace). I just don't know what they are.
