RE: Lexmark Z65 4800 DPI printer

It could be that I have it backwards; but that is not my understanding.  My
understanding is that the higher number in both the case of scanners and
printers reflects the long edge of the media and typically is a multiple of
the lower number for the short edge that is a result fo the stepper motor
which either puches the paper thru the device in steps or runs the scanner
sensors or printhead down the media.

But even if you are correct and the larger number is the wide edge, you have
to admit that 4800 dpi is relatively low compared to either 14400 or 2880
dpi.

I think you have that backwards.  On an Epson 14440 x 720 dpi, the 1440 dpi
goes
across the page, and the paper advancing mechanisms limited (until recently)
vertical dpi to 720.  On the new machines they can do 2880 x1440.  The 1440
being the vertical measurement.
