I was under the impression that WD40 used a petroleum-gas propellant --
perhaps I was mistaken.
I believe it's possible here, if you have a product that *absolutely
cannot* include petroleum propellant (food related, medical/personal etc.),
to obtain special dispensation for CO2 instead -- there may also be a
phase-out period for existing products (I haven't read the legislation
concerned -- probably wouldn't comprehend it if I did...)
I also have no particular problem obtaining CO2 for mig welding steel, but
now have to source it from fire protection companies, where it costs
noticeably more.
Incidentally, CO2 is excellent for promoting oxidation (rust) - another
reason for not using it printer slide rails?)
