John,
I hope you saw my response to a similar question regarding a C80 printer.
Your situation is the same, you haven't provided enough information to help
us figure out what might or might not be going on.
If you are using Epson inks and papers you generally shouldn't need a
profile to get a decent match. They are "built-in" to the printer driver and
are automatically selected and applied when you select the paper type in the
driver (on a Windows system).
Some folks have used a custom profile for Epson inks and papers to possibly
obtain a better match. These have to be purchased from an individual or
company who specializes in making them. They are not generic and are
specific to your printer.
There is an European Epson site that offers the individual MAC-type profiles
for Windows. They have the 810 listed and I think that is the Euro version
of the 820. Those profiles should work with the 820 but should be not much
different or better than the "built-in" profiles in the printer driver. But
you could try.
www.photoexpert.epson.co.uk
Search for 810 printer profiles. The site is not particularly easy to track
things down on. The also have a "How To" page with instructions of how to
use the profiles.
But before spending money for a custom profile or trying the Euro 810
profiles, I would try to figure out why your printer is not working
satisfactorily. It should do some better than it seems to be doing. You can
do this by describing what is "wrong" with your prints, how they don't match
the screen, what program you're printing from and how you are setting up to
print. More often than not the problem is usually with an incorrect setup in
the printing process.
Have the prints ever matched? Have you done a nozzle check to make sure all
the colors are printing and printing correctly? What paper are you printing
to? What kind of monitor do you have? And so on. Basic questions require
some basic info in order to help respond to them properly.
