Hi
yes i am using epson inks and papers , where would i get the profiles from?
I am not sure what you mean by profiles?

*************************

A profile is basically a set of instructions that tell the printer how to
print on a specific kind of paper. If using Epson inks and papers, the
profile for each/most is "built-in" to the printer driver on a Windows
system and is applied when you select the paper type in the printer driver.
Most of the time you don't have to worry with or about them.

The new ColorLife Espon paper may have a separate profile that has to be
downloaded from Epson for some of the older printers, it may be included for
your 820? Some other papers are not listed in the printer driver but when
those papers are used, there will be instructions/suggestions included with
the paper as to which other paper setting may work. Some folks experiment.

Once you get away for either or both Epson inks and papers then the
"standard" profiles in the printer driver no longer can be used and a
"custom" profile for that specific ink and paper combination has to be
created in order to let the printer know how to print properly with that
combination.

This has to be done with special software/hardware. You can do it yourself,
some have done it and achieved good results and others have had not good
results. Or you can have the custom profile(s) built by someone or a company
who specializes in doing that. There is a cost for the service. Each paper
and ink combo requires its own custom profile.

First, you need to figure out IF you need a custom profile. And remember,
they are not "magic" and nor will they solve all of your printing problems.
They may, they may not. It depends on how close you feel you need to be.

Another part of the matching process that has been talked about here on the
list often is the need for proper print viewing lighting.

This is a very basic explanation of profiles, hope it helps some. Beyond thi
s, someone else is going to have to talk because this is about all I know
about it! ;o) And it only took me two years of hanging around the list to
learn this little bit. I am a fast learner.......it probably has more to
deal with "realistic expectations" more than anything else. I had to adjust
my expectations.
