Subject: Quick question: Power on or off?

Quick question for all you Epson users -
At night do you turn the power off on your Epson printer or keep it on?

I have the Epson Stylus Photo 700 printer. I know Epson says you should
turn it off when you are done using it - but I find it takes a while to
reset
itself and sometimes cleans the ink which uses more ink after turning it on.
My other printer (HP Laserjet) I leave on 24 hours a day 7 days a week even
if I am on vacation... I don't think twice about it.

What do you recommend for your Epsons?
Thanks!

Off.

I have both an Epson 900 and an 870 and if I leave either of them on without
using them frequently, I get clogs. I had an old Epson Stylus Color (?) and
I left the thing on all the time, thought I could do it with the 900 when I
got it. I can't. Not sure how the 700 compares to the Stylus Color and the
900 and 870. If leaving it one doesn't cause it have printing problems the
it *might* be okay to leave it on. But I wouldn't.

As far as the HP Laserjet, that's different. Toner cartridges don't clog up.
I had an HP Laserjet IV and did as you do. Which I now would not do. I wound
up having to replace the cooling fan motor long before the printer was worn
out. I really don't think you could wear it out if you tried. Helluva
printer. If you are using it regularly, then keeping it one all of the time
might be okay, but turn it off if it is not going to used for a while-such
as on vacation, to help save the fan motor. And buy some kind of cover for
the printer when it is not being used. The fan motor is bad about collecting
dust and crud and is impossible to get to and clean. That's another reason
not to keep it on all of the time.

The laser (Ricoh AP 2100) I have now is designed to be left on. When unused
it goes into a "sleep" mode and can be brought back by sending a print job
to it or by hitting any button on the printer control panel. I still turn it
off if I am not going to be using it for any length of time.
