Drivers for 1270 and 1290

I have watched the thread about 870 and 890 drivers/paper options with
interest and I have a question as a result. Can one get a computer or
printer to fool the driver into recognising a different printer? To
elaborate - I am running OS 9.1 on a G3 Mac and have an Epson 1290. I also
have Adobe PressReady which has a driver for a 1270 but I believe that there
will be no further driver updates and so no driver for the 1290. As there
are many essential similarities, including inkset, between the two printers
is it possible to get the 1290 to use the 1270 driver? I'm not expecting
edge-to-edge printing or 2880 dpi. I also have the standard Epson 1270
driver but this will not "see" my printer either. Is this a non starter or
maybe it requires some hacking that is beyond me. The standard 1290 drivers
work fine by the way, it's not a problem with the standard setup.

Cheers
