With the printer on, press the button to change ink cartridges. When the
carriage begins to move, unplug the printer. The carriage will now slide
back and forth freely. Cut a strip of paper towel about four inches x four
inches and fold it in quarters so that you have a strip about one inch wide
x 4 inches. Soak this strip with Windex (plain old Windex - not the version
with lemon Scent or other additives, or use plain old Fantastik). Place this
strip in the path of the carriage and slide the heads over it. You might
have to flatten it a little to get the carriage to fit over it. Leave this
overnight or for at least a few hours. Then, slide the head back so the
strip is exposed and remove the paper towel. Clean up any residue with a
lint-free cloth or paper towel, plug in the printer, turn it on and the
carriage will automatically re-seat itself at rest. Run a head cleaning
cycle and print a test pattern. You may have to run an extra cleaning cycle
to get a full black. This process is good for most stubborn clogs with Epson
OEM inks. If you need a more aggressive solution, please email me off line.
Good luck!
