Gimp, Linux, and profiling pigmented inks

Hello everyone,

first of all I would like to express my gratitude for the excellent advices
on this list, I have learned quite a lot over the last couple of weeks.

Here's my problem:
I work with Gimp 1.2.2 on a Linux machine, printing on Epson 1270 with the
Epson OEM catridges, scanning with a Nikon LS-30, and get fairly acceptable
results without any dedicated profiling software. Now I'm considering buying
pigmented inks (Gen4 or MIS) along with a CIS. According to this list, the
pigmented inks will definitely need profiling, which seems to be impossible
in Gimp.
I will have to use these non-fading inks, and I don't really want to go back
to Windows :o)
Has anyone got experiences with a similar setup or could recommend a
profiling procedure for Linux machines?
Sorry if this might have been discussed already.

Thanks in advance

Christoph
