RE: Sharing a 1270 on a home network

Many thanks to all who responded.

The problem is solved. The solution was to follow the instructions for
installing a Win2000 shared printer on the Win98 box. This means that I
didn't try to install the network printer, but rather used the printer that
was already installed and set it to print to a network port targeted to the
appropriate network printer.

The only remaining problem is that the status monitor shows a disconnect on
the Win98 box when the print job has finished ... not a big deal to click OK
to get rid of it ... but I may just disable the status monitor instead.

Thanks again

Subject: Sharing a 1270 on a home network

Having gotten a new computer, a fantastic, fast Win2000 box, I have just
successfully networked to my old pokey Win98SE computer. I can share files
just fine, but somehow have not been able to share my 1270 printer.

I have the 1270 connected to the Win2000 computer via USB and have enabled
sharing. The printer shows up in the network and can be accessed in Network
Neighborhood on the Win98 box. When I try to install it, it goes through the
entire install dialogue, including recognizing that it's an Epson 1270 and
that the correct Win98 drivers are already loaded; it names it "Epson Stylus
Photo 1270 copy 2; but then an error box comes up and says it cannot be
installed and to reboot and try again.

Rebooting doesn't help. Trying with the printer turned off doesn't help. I
must be missing something crucial here but can't figure out what.

All suggestions much appreciated,
