Readers: I am replying to my own message. Since I posted this query earlier today someone sent me a private message about a driver update, go here and download the new driver: http://support.epson.com/hardware/printer/inkjet/pro55_/index.html so far it looks like it is going to do the job. Funny thing I called Epson three times today and i spoke with three different tech people and explained to all of them the above problem, not one of them had ever heard of such a problem and none of them suggested a driver update. Yet I got two private e-mails from 5500 users both of them aware of the problem and the driver update.
