Old 740 into Black and White?

I have an old 740 that I recomissioned after my laser printer broke.
So...I'm using carts again. I hate it.

I also have a 1200 and 1280 with NMC CFS using OEM Inks. I use these for
color work. I love them.

Question is: Should I convert the 740 to NMC CIS and use a B&W Quadtone
inset? Is it worth the investment? Using it mostly for routine desktop
bw printing, but occasionally fine BW photos.

Basically, is it worth the 100 bucks to install on the 740. Or, should I
dump the 740 and go for a cheap new Epson. Hmmmmm?

What is the best B&W 4 color ink set? from whom?
