I find Doc Pro works well for fine adjustments like removing a slight colorcast or opening up shadows a bit. If you try big moves with it, you can find that the law of unintended consequences is alive and well. It's a very useful tool, IMHO. How good a job does Colorvision's DoctorPro do in tweaking scanner-based profiles made by WisiWYG or EZColor of ProfilerPLUS? I think Todd's | analysis of printer profiles with EZ Color 2 and ProfilerPLUS pretty well | summed up the current balance: EZ Color 2 often gives you a closer first time | profile, but ProfilerPLUS probably offers a bit better final result if you | take the time and have the skills to edit it appropriately. This is a general | statement; different printers (and different users) will have varying | specific results. There is little question that the monitor calibration | hardware and software from ColorVision is superior; and no issue at all about | scanner profile comparisons since ColorVision doesn't make scanner profiling | software. Scanner profiling software isn't really a critical part of the | workflow, however; while monitor profiling is paramount! | | Another factor often forgotten is that ProfilerPLUS offers full control of | ink limits and black generation settings putting it in a class by itself for | CMYK profiles. | | But please keep all of the above in perspective; I regularly have | professional photographers contact me and complain that one or another of | these packages is not doing exactly what they want. NONE of these printer | profilers is intended for professional work; for that get a spectro and build | serious profiles! | | C.
