RE: ColorVision's ProfilerPlus

I received my ColorVision suite of Spider, OptiCal, and ProfilerPlus just a couple days ago.  Altho my monitor has been calibrated with PhotoCal for months, I'm VERY new to profiling and color management generally, so your experience may be significantly different than mine.  Also, the Epson 1250 Photo scanner I bought for this process is my first ever.

Initial results were VERY disappointing.  I then discovered that following Ian Lyon's tutorial on scanner settings is very important.  See them at

http://www.rgbnet.co.uk/ilyons/epson_scan/epsonscan_1.htm.

After several starts and stops, I finally got a 'raw' profile that produced acceptable results on the PDI test image, altho contrast was lacking.  I immediately built another and used the profile's sliders to adjust brightness and contrast, and after a few iterations, it's producing VERY nice prints.  My unprofiled 7000 really blocked the dark colors into big blobs of dark-gray/green, and that does NOT happen anymore.

Two quick points.  First, all slider settings have to be cumulative and not just what you want to change this time.  IOW, you must input ALL slider corrections EVERY time you (re)build the profile.  Secondly, in my Windoz 2KP system, the new profile isn't available to the print driver unless you close Photoshop and reopen it.

So far, I'm thrilled.
