I know nothing about Nanao but you won't go wrong with the Sony, a Mitsubishi, or the LaCie. Here's my situation: | | 99%+ work is greyscale. I sometimes bring in digital camera images in RGB but | do a channel mix in pshop to greyscale. I wind up with greyscale image files | output to a quad ink epson 1160. images wind up around 16 x 11 inches at 360ppi | maximum. And I need to have screen real estate and see details down to grain, | noise and dust specks etc. Currently, my Nanao sometimes doesn't show things | even at 100% that the actual full size MIS VM quad print will. So color | accuracy isn't as important as sharpness and contrast. | | I use a dual display (Matrox G-400 32 mb) and fill the other, 15 inch color | monitor up with pallets. I have some filters which require generic color in the | GUI to make sense of them. There used to be monochrome monitors, but I have not | heard of them lately, and there are certainly times when I DO want color on the | main screen, as in channel mixing. I wouldn't mind trying out 1600 x 1200 for | size. The environment is relatively stable lighting, and at very low levels. I | just use Adobe Gamma for calibration, then I calibrate print output to monitor | using a custom greyscale dotgain curve in pshop color settings. | | When I see the off-brand CRT monitors these days in Office Depot, etc, I'm | amazed at how detailed and clear even these have become while I've been holed up | in my dark studio burning out my Nanao. I'm sure I would be satisfied with many | of the newer monitors. I've been thinking of the 21 inch Sony CPD-G520, 21 inch | Nanao T962, Lacie elctronblue 22 inch. I really don't want to go over $1000 | though. I'll consider an LCD but again, remember I like screen real estate and | have price concerns. I don't know if I can live with less than 18.8", but it | sure cuts the price down/ or gets an LCD. Meeting the TCO specs (95, 99) is nice | , just in case there is something to all the talk. I want to avoid magnetising | my brain, now that I bought my Ott-lite<g>. | | Apologies for the length. Advice or perspective, anyone? | TIA | | -- | Jim Hayes | | | | | - | Turn off HTML mail features. Keep quoted material short.
