Bob, as to whats the best DPI for output,
Make four prints from a Hi res Scan,
Make one at 240, one at 300, one at 360 and one at 480 DPI.
Look VERY closely at the results. You CAN see a VERY subtle difference
between 300,360, and 480, with 480 being the sharpest. But the
difference just isn't worth the extra hassle. Text, especially will be
sharper at 480. I've made identical prints from 100 dpi to 1200 DPI,
just for my own interests. For PHOTOgraphs, 240 is as good as you really
need, unless you look at your prints from 2 inches away or with a loupe.
480 is best if you have lots of very small text in your photoshop image.
