That was one approach I worked with in the past... turns out that even though
those first generation scanner based profiles may look pretty far off under
some circumstances, they still have some important color info that a random
or generic profile does not. So even if your first take at such a profile
looks worse than Epson's canned profile for that paper type, you can
generally end up with a better result once edited than what you would get
editing a generic profile.
