Which flavor of Linux are you installing? Just about every one
I've used has a "manual partitioning" option that lets the
advanced user (1) choose how to allocate existing partitions, (2)
and resize/create/delete partitions. If you've used some tool
(whether an installer or Partition Magic) to split your drive
into 2 or more partitions, most Linux installers should allow you
to just specify the one new ext4 partition as the destination.
