dmraid doesnt detect raid 10 on Intel Board SE7221BK1-E

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi,

I have server with Intel Board SE7221BK1-E

It has ICH6R on board according to Intel specs

Is RAID10 mode for the ICH6R supported?

Bios configuration:

ATA/IDE Configuration: enabled
RAID Technology: enabled
ACHI Mode: enabled

There are four drives on the SATA channels

And RAID 10 was selected on the bios setup for the RAID subsystem.

I tried Fedora Core 5 Test 2 which hopefully had installer support for
dmraid

No luck with : linux dmraid

achi module loads at boot time but when the installer starts and gets to
the partition setup all four drives are seen as /dev/sda thru /dev/sdd
instead of a single raid array.

Looked around using command line console but couldn't really see how and
where dmraid works on the installer.

I have managed to boot the system using an existing Fedora Core 4
installation on the remaining ATA channel.

I tried the dmraid that Fedora Core 4 comes with and no luck

dmraid -ay

produces result : No Software RAID disks

I have upgraded dmraid rpm

dmraid-1.0.0.rc9-1 rpm
device-mapper-1.01.02-1.0

lspci lists the following:

00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev d3)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FR (ICH6/ICH6R) LPC
Interface Bridge (rev 03)
00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6
Family) IDE Controller (rev 03)
00:1f.2 RAID bus controller: Intel Corporation 82801FR/FRW
(ICH6R/ICH6RW) SATA Controller (rev 03)

Fedora Core initially boots with the ata_piix modules and drives are
seen fine as /dev/sda thru to /dev/sdd

dmraid -ay -vvvvv -ddddd

does

Thought that should be using ahci module

rmmod ata_piix libata sd_mod scsi_mod

dmesg shows

modprobe ahci loads fine

The Intel supplied driver works as expected but only works with RH9
which is rather old now.

Would really like to get Fedora Core 4 going rather.

Any help would be appreciated as to what it is I am doing wrong.

Would dmraid be recommended for a production server or is it still very
developmental?
