I'm ported the actual kernel to a new at91sam9261 based board and would like to publish the work. The manufacturer of the board only provides a relativly old kernel with some ugly hacks and shortcuts. In fact the board consists of three separate parts: A CPU-board, an adapter board and an evaluation board. All three parts are separately and publicly purchasable. So my question is: Should I register three different mashine IDs for the three different configurations (CPU board alone, CPU board plus adapter, or all three parts together) or should I only register one ID and assume the complete setup consisting of cpu board, adapter board and evaluation board together? Personally I tend to the second solution, only one mashine ID for the whole setup. Because if a user only choose the cpu board with or without the adapter board, he have to hack the kernel anyway to fit his specific application.
