question about packed structures | |

Hello, for my application i use a shared memory segment that multiple processes can read from and write to.
It uses an array of structs. When i define the structs with __attribute__ ((packed)) i save around 100K of memory.
I wonder if this 100K is worth the effort of making the structs packed. Is there a performance penalty for making the structs packed or is that minimal?
i use a pxa255 processor. thanks, Chris. ------------------------------------------------------------------- List admin: http://lists.arm.linux.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/linux-arm FAQ: http://www.arm.linux.org.uk/mailinglists/faq.php Etiquette: http://www.arm.linux.org.uk/mailinglists/etiquette.php
