Problem with chmod on SD Card drive

Hello everybody,

why does the command " chmod 777 test"
work on the flash drive, but not on the SD drive ?

I am using arm linux 2.6.12

drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root        16384 Jun 24 21:00 test
root@Portux920T:# chmod 777 test
root@Portux920T:# ls test -l
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root        16384 Jun 24 21:00 test
root@Portux920T:#

Is this a failure ?
