Free maintenance from volunteers will always stop suddenly.  Period.

There are commercial alternatives if you really need 2.4.x support.

If you are a commercial provider yourself then your only option is to do 
it by yourself or seek for another Linux consultant with more 
experience.

And that's exactly what those people willing to do it for free and not 
interested into 2.4.x kernels anymore are working on.
