RE: Query about Micrel Kendin switches

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello,

I am still not clear on why the PROMISCUOUS mode is not working. We are
using the Kendin switch KS8995X configured to duall MII mode(using the ADI
Engineering Coyote board design). In this mode, the KS8995X acts like "two
separate devices". One is a switch, comprising of PHY ports {1,2,3,4} and
the SW-MII port. The other is a standalone single port PHY, comprising of
PHY port 5 and the P5-MII port.

In our custom IXP425 platform we are using PHY port 4(ixp0) & 5 (ixp1).

The PHY port 4 (ixp0) is able to see all the packets that is there in the
LAN, whereas i have problem with ixp1.

IXP1 is also able to receive all the packets in the LAN when it is
connected alone to the Ethernet HUB. The problem comes when i put the
another IXP425 unit to the Hub. I am able to see only the ARP packets.

I dont understand why the interface IXP0 ie.(PHY port 4) is able to see all
the packets(including the unicast packets) in the LAN, even though i have 2
of my custom IXP425 units connected to the Hub.

Thanks
Vanitha
