A GbE bridge and a computational/db server

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello list,

I'm in the process of putting together specs for two servers.

1. A GbE bridge with as much as 5 1Gb Ethernet (copper) links
LeWiz cards do look nice, but I'm afraid they're not available
here (Poland). I was thinking about Foxconn NFPIK8AA-8EKRS board
for this one and maybe Intel PRO/1000 PT Dual/Quad Ethernet cards.

2. A server with lots of CPUs (4x dual-core Opteron), RAM (8GB+)
and storage (2TB+) for running scientific apps like Psyblast.
I was thinking about Tyan S4985 as a base for this one, along with
3ware Escalade 9xxx SATA RAID with 8 WD RE400 disks for storage
(plus 2x WD Raptor 150 for OS in software RAID0).

Any comments/recommendations?

Regards,
