I saw a comment on http://lists.pcxperience.com/mailman/listinfo/linuxr3000/ which indicates that HP may have dropped 1920x1200 because of thermal problems (high res cause CPU to be at high speed and generating too much heat). While I have not seen any heat problems with my R3000z and running 1920x1200, that does not mean that there are no problems. But, because of this I did ratchet down my display to 1680x1050 and found that this is a very reasonable display and does not lose too much compared to 1920x1200.
