It could be your slim cdrom drive, at least that's what it turned out to
be on my system.  I would start installing the system only to have the
installer lock up on me when I got to the reading packages part.  When I
swapped out my cdrom (it's one of those slim ones they use in laptops,
but there's not much information on the label) with a standard dell
cdrom, the installer worked fine.  I verified this by putting in another
slim cdrom drive and  sure enough, it locked up again.   My system is
from racksaver so if yours is too, try swapping out the cdrom drive.
