John Beckman with the Waterloo Police Department. =93Everyone is fine and safe.=94 The Boeing 757-200 began radioing the control tower at the Waterloo Regional Airport to report the problem at about 10 a.m., Beckman said. The aircraft had 181 passengers and eight crew members and was headed from Detroit-Wayne County International Airport to Los Angeles International. The plane landed without incident at 10:15 a.m. and was able to taxi to the terminal on its own. Fire crews amassed at the airport, but weren=92t needed. Beckman said the smoke in the cockpit apparently cleared up not long after it was noticed. It wasn=92t clear what caused the smoke. Passengers were led from the plane and will remain in Waterloo until the airline determines the next step in their journey.
