I finally have this whacked, using the fstab line
//192.168.0.40/anne /mnt/borg2_smbhome cifs
rw,user,credentials=/etc/samba/auth.borg2.anne 0 0
However, the old samba mount required the credentials file to have spaces
around the "=" and the new one needs them taking out. HTH
