19:01:16 <nirik> who all is around for a nice infrastructure meeting?
19:01:40 * LoKoMurdoK here
19:01:41 <albutler> albutler
19:02:14 <nirik> morning.
19:02:24 * nirik will wait another few minutes for folks to wander in.
19:02:35 * abadger1999 here
19:02:37 * lmacken
19:02:42 <LoKoMurdoK> nirik: afternoon
19:02:48 <LoKoMurdoK> :)
19:03:36 <nirik> ok, lets go ahead and dive in then...
19:03:44 <nirik> #topic New folks introductions and apprentice tasks/feedback
19:03:59 <nirik> Any new folks want to introduce themselves, or any apprentices want to talk about any tasks?
19:04:00 <albutler> hello everyone
19:04:13 <dgilmore> hola
19:04:24 <thesharp> yes. good evening.
19:04:49 <thesharp> never send my proper indroduction to the list (will do it later) but i want to apply in sysadmin-noc to help out a little bit.
19:05:06 <smooge> morning
19:05:08 <albutler> I'm new shall I go on?
19:05:21 <smooge> yes please
19:05:28 <nirik> albutler: welcome, please if you could give a bit of background and the kinds of things you want to work on that would be great.
19:05:39 <albutler> I was a QA engineer (Unix platforms) in a past life; also did some work as a PC tech; got into Linux over 10 yrs ago to keep up with Unix - am blown away by Free/Open Source and how it empowers the haves and have-nots alike; am seeking to transition to web development 1stly, also interested in sys admin to deepen Linux experience
19:05:50 <nirik> thesharp: welcome. ;) What sort of things are you interested in working on?
19:06:08 <albutler> programming and web apps
19:06:19 <albutler> also sys admin
19:06:26 <nirik> albutler: excellent. abadger1999 might be able to find some things for you to work on in the web app/programming side.
19:06:33 <thesharp> nirik: i saw a couple of monitoring related open tickets and since this is the thing i am familiar with -- i would like to help with it.
19:06:40 <abadger1999> <nod>
19:06:42 <CodeBlock> here, late
19:07:09 <abadger1999> albutler: We have a lot of python web apps that we work on.
19:07:29 <abadger1999> albutler: If that's interesting to you we can look for a ticket for you to work on after the meeting :-)
19:07:33 <nirik> thesharp: great. We typically add folks to the apprentice group (which is basically read-only access to a lot of places), then you can propose patches to fix things, we apply them and once you have worked with us for a while we move you to a group like sysadmin-noc, or an area you are interested in working in. ;)
19:07:42 <albutler> great - I'm in the process of learning python experience with perl
19:07:49 <aeperezt> here, late
19:07:51 <thesharp> in the future, i would like to learn about kvm a little bit. at my $dayjob i use openvz as a virtualization solution but it's always good to know what's going on the other side. :)
19:08:35 <thesharp> nirik: yeah, i've read the wiki so i know the drill. :)
19:09:15 <nirik> Also, a note: starting tomorrow thru the 2nd is holiday's for RH employees. So, many people may not be around. If you are interested in working on or proposing fixes, etc... if you can't find folks on irc, please do update tickets with whatever info so we can handle it as folks are around to.
19:09:50 <wsterling> \me here
19:10:01 <nirik> albutler / thesharp: lets talk after the meeting over in #fedora-admin and get you guys setup...
19:10:14 <thesharp> nirik: sure. thanks.
19:10:24 <nirik> aeperezt: welcome. Care to provide a quick background/into and let us know what kinds of things you are interested in?
19:10:26 <albutler> ok when?
19:10:27 <nirik> welcome wsterling
19:10:46 <nirik> albutler: meeting is blocked out for an hour, but we may finish before then. ;)
19:10:57 * nirik thinks it might be a short meeting today.
19:12:04 <albutler> ok
19:12:14 <aeperezt> helo nirik I'm on fiaprentice group had help a bit on fas, i'm interesting on sysadmin pyhton is not my strong part, do ruby, but willing to learn
19:13:10 <nirik> aeperezt: ah yes. Cool. we can look for more items for you to do after the meeting over in #fedora-admin ?
19:13:32 <aeperezt> nirik, thanks
19:13:40 <nirik> ok, lets move on, unless there's any other apprentice/new folks questions?
19:14:09 <nirik> #topic serverbeach / collab / hosted status
19:14:24 <nirik> So, we are now finally all moved off the old serverbeach machines and on to the new ones.
19:14:27 <nirik> hurray.
19:15:00 <nirik> Over the next year, we will probibly be continuing some hosted move plans... moving mailman, moving projects off to other machines, etc.
19:15:02 * gomix congrats nirik team ...
19:15:20 <nirik> yeah, it's sure good to be done with. ;)
19:15:44 <nirik> #topic ibiblio machines status
19:15:56 <nirik> At ibiblio, we have a ibiblio03 installed and already in use. ;)
19:16:11 <nirik> we need to get torrent01 moved off ibiblio01 and then we can re-install it as rhel6.
19:16:26 <nirik> probibly that will happen after the holiday
19:17:03 <nirik> skvidal and herlo are looking at torrent solutions.
19:17:25 <nirik> #topic Upcoming Tasks/Items
19:17:34 <nirik> #info 2011-12-23 to 2012-01-02 - rh shutdown week.

19:17:42 <nirik> #info 2012-02-14 to 2012-02-28 - F17 Alpha Freeze
19:17:44 <nirik> #info 2011-04-03 - gitweb-cache removal day.
19:17:53 <nirik> Note that we have a power outage thats going to affect our download-rdu* machines.
19:17:59 <abadger1999> #info 2012-01-31 - fas 0.8.11 final release.
19:18:15 <nirik> oh shoot. I thought I fixed that.
19:18:33 * nirik fixes. Thanks abadger1999
19:19:05 <nirik> #action nirik is going to file a outage for download-rdu machines and schedule outage in nagios, etc.
19:19:34 <nirik> Any other upcoming items or tasks folks would like to point out/schedule/or talk about?
19:20:08 <smooge> not from me.
19:20:39 <dgilmore> loooks like i can go to phx for 3 days
19:20:46 <dgilmore> well 3 nights
19:21:05 <nirik> dgilmore: cool. you have that scheduled ?
19:21:15 <dgilmore> nirik: not yet
19:21:21 <dgilmore> i need to though
19:21:43 <nirik> yeah, and thanks for going. ;)
19:21:52 <dgilmore> :) its ok
19:21:56 <smooge> cool. we can have work on the xen->junk migration :P
19:22:03 <dgilmore> yeah
19:22:15 <nirik> off the top of my head:
19:22:20 <dgilmore> so I need to get a list of things to do
19:22:25 <nirik> - move decomissioned boxes to junk network
19:22:37 <nirik> - reinstall sign-vault01 as rhel6
19:22:55 <nirik> - probibly some label checking
19:23:11 <nirik> - possibly decommission backup01
19:23:50 <nirik> not sure what else off hand. ;)
19:23:58 * jds2001 is late, sorry
19:24:34 <nirik> oh, we have a virthost we added disk to that we need to reconfig the raid on... might be good to do that then too.
19:24:37 <nirik> morning jds2001. ;)
19:25:13 <nirik> - possibly imm firmware updates
19:25:37 <nirik> anyhow, we can come up with a list closer to time.
19:25:41 <dgilmore> nirik: yeah. i think there is a equalogix update
19:26:24 <nirik> there's also bios updates I think, but not sure if we should bother unless they fix something specific we care about. ;)
19:26:42 <dgilmore> nirik: yeah
19:27:32 <nirik> #topic Open Floor
19:27:39 <nirik> Anyone have any items for open floor?
19:28:08 <jds2001> why not care about bios updates?
19:28:23 <nirik> dgilmore: oh, did you see my nfs outage retrospective? worth trying to do some of the things in there?
19:28:30 <jds2001> fixing something now means avoid it in the future :)
19:28:40 <dgilmore> nirik: i think i did
19:28:41 <nirik> jds2001: well, usually they fix something we really don't care about, but we could I suppose.
19:28:43 <dgilmore> ill double check it
19:29:00 <nirik> ie, some hardware or thing we don't even have
19:29:07 <jds2001> nirik: yeah, vendors quite often dont tell you everything :)
19:29:16 <nirik> yeah, true also.
19:29:21 * jds2001 has had a firmware update fix things completely unrelated :)
19:29:24 <nirik> sometimes it has "fixes"
19:29:47 <smooge> I think mainly it is because the IBM hardware is "fun" to update
19:30:06 <smooge> I think the anti-psychotic medicine is working for seth by now
19:30:09 <nirik> if they could make the machines boot in less than 10minutes that would be great. ;)
19:30:18 <jds2001> heh
19:30:48 * jds2001 has no real experience with IBM hardware
19:31:04 <smooge> its like an IBM s/360 with a pentium
19:31:31 <nirik> the worst part is that it takes many minutes of not much, then there is a 10 second window where you can hit a key to get into setup or change something... such a poor interface. ;(
19:31:57 <jds2001> yeah, that's all of them though :)
19:31:59 <dgilmore> nirik: yeah that bit blows
19:32:30 <nirik> yeah. anyhow...
19:32:48 <smooge> I think that whoever designs server hardware needs to be tested for sado/masochistic tendencies and if true removed from building the hardware.
19:32:58 <smooge> but that is neither here nor there.
19:33:02 <wsterling> From an HMC or the service processor you can tell it to stop at the menu but its not ideal...
19:33:42 <nirik> If nothing else, will close out the meeting in a minute then... :)
19:33:44 <wsterling> You shoudl see the 3' long gadget IBM used to have you use to replace hot swappable PCI card in power machines...
19:33:56 <nirik> wsterling: crazy.
19:35:06 <nirik> thanks for coming everyone and have a great holidays!
