Ok, that did the trick, thanks !
with a console connected to the serial-port, i can see a kernel-panic
right in the moment starting with the package installation:

Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!
In interrupt handler - not syncing

where does this cama from ?

it's an alphastation 500/400, ev56, 192mb ram, qlogic isp1020,
(elsa)permedia 2 and 3com980 nic
